Risk Factors include
- Ethnicity
- Increased in African American, Hispanic/Latino, American
Indian, Asian American and Pacific Islander
- Age
- Over the age of 45
- Sedentary Lifestyle
- Being Overweight
- Family History of Diabetes
- People with low HDL cholesterol or high triglycerides
- Pregnancy, or women who had gestational diabetes or who had a
baby weighing over 9 pounds.
Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes
There are ten warning signs of diabetes. If you should
experience these symptoms,
see your doctor and ask for a test for possible diabetes or insulin
resistance syndrome.
- Increased Thirst
- Blurred Vision or any change in sight
- Tingling or numbness in legs, feet or fingers
- Weakness or fatigue
- Frequent Infections (including skin and itchy skin)
- Slow healing, especially on feet
- Frequent Urination
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme hunger
- Irritability
