Risk Factors

Risk Factors include

  • Ethnicity
  • Increased in African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Asian American and Pacific Islander
  • Age
  • Over the age of 45
  • Sedentary Lifestyle
  • Being Overweight
  • Family History of Diabetes
  • People with low HDL cholesterol or high triglycerides
  • Pregnancy, or women who had gestational diabetes or who had a baby weighing over 9 pounds.
 

Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes

There are ten warning signs of diabetes. If you should experience these symptoms, 
see your doctor and ask for a test for possible diabetes or insulin resistance syndrome.
  • Increased Thirst
  • Blurred Vision or any change in sight
  • Tingling or numbness in legs, feet or fingers
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Frequent Infections (including skin and itchy skin)
  • Slow healing, especially on feet
  • Frequent Urination
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Extreme hunger
  • Irritability
